Characteristics: The first written record mentioning the village as Keresztur dates from 1347. (The name Murakeresztúr has been in use since 1926.) Between 1566 and 1598, the Turks relentlessly attacked the village. Before World War I, Croatians accounted for 90% of the population, but the Paris peace treaties attached the nearby areas to the Serbo-Croatian-Slovenian kingdom. However, even today, many of the residents are Croatians. The population shows a declining trend. Murakeresztúr is a regional center and a border crossing station. Infrastructure: Apartments with water: 100% phone: 50% Paved roads: 60% Garbage collection: organized. Development plan to the year 2000: The construction of a gas network and a bicycle path, and the extension of the sewerage.
Economy: Agriculture: plant cultivation, vine growing. Industry: Faun Furniture Inc., Agro-Mura Ltd. Unemployment: 10.5% Institutions: A library, a kindergarten, a primary school, a culture house, a movie theater and two sports fields. Sights: Zrínyiújvár, the Zrínyi-castle. A sculpture of Miklós Zrínyi. In Kollátszeg (part of Murakeresztúr), there are old dwelling houses, a church and a chapel that are worthy of preservation.
